However the current data are unable to resolve the components of the absorber so very little is known about its properties. We propose to obtain a 200 ks definitive Chandra HETG observation of Mrk 1040 from 0.5-9.0 keV where we will resolve the lines for the first time enabling a detailed analysis of the kinematics and energetics to be made. We will also obtain the first high-resolution spectrum > 2 keV in this source allowing us to resolve the narrow Fe K alpha core. Furthermore, through a 125 ks Suzaku observation we will also study the Fe K complex in unprecedented detail while simultaneously determining the origin of the hard excess.
