The tables below give the approximate (u,v) coverage quality for a
HALCA observation in any part of the sky between October 2000 and
March 2002. The right ascension grid is every two hours; the
declination grid is every ten degrees; and the time grid is every
month, centered in the middle of the month. These qualities were
estimated from the (u,v) plots which are available.
See the EXAMPLE just below.
For more detailed analysis, use the Fakesat program available to
all users.
The quality codes for the u,v coverage of each entry mean:
0 = Source observation is not possible:
The source is within 80 degrees of the sun.
1= Avoid observation if at all possible:
The (u,v) coverage is foreshortened or very linear and there are
large gaps in the tracking coverage. Use the fakesat software and
detailed (u,v) plots to see if observations during these periods
are still useful. Check the position angle of the (u,v) coverage.
2= Fair (u,v) coverage:
Not recommended since better u,v coverage can often be obtained
at a different time. However, for low declination sources and source
monitoring, observations during these periods are often needed.
3= Good (u,v) coverage:
4= Very Good (u,v) coverage:
5= Excellent (u,v) coverage:
Observations longer than eight hours during these periods will produce
relatively high resolution with two-dimensional coverage. However,
for sources near the equator some regions of sky have no or very
short periods of (u,v) coverage with quality code 3 or better during
the 2000-2001 period.
