What's New on the VSOP WWW site?
Last updated: June 2000
- The Proceedings of the VSOP Symposium, held at ISAS in
January 2000, are now available
online.
See also the
VSOP Literature page
for details of other recent papers involving VSOP data.
(June 2000).
- An attack on the VSOP web site (similar to those on a number
of other sites in Japan) forces the closure of the site for
a week or so, and an upgrade of security. Some links may not
be working yet, for instance the cgi-bin script mentioned below
is not currently available...
(February 2000).
- The failure of a one of HALCA's four reaction wheels put
a stop to observing in October. The satellite was soon restabilized
and experience in operating with three reaction wheels gained.
A minor setback occurred in November when an on-board clock unit
stopped, but this was fixed in early December, with observing scheduled
to start again in mid-December, although for the time being HALCA
is limited to point to the anti-sun region of sky.
(04 December 1999).
- A number of changes and additions to the site recently:
the old Experiment Status page has been replaced by an
Observation Status Page, which
will be updated more regularly than its predecessor!
Also, a script to add the expected elevation dependence
to nominal Tsys values has been made available (now this is not available.) to provide more
realistic Tsys values for those GRTs where measurements logged values
are unavailable. At present only two telescope/frequency combinations
are supported, but others will be added in the near future
(thanks to Jim Lovell for providing this script).
Thanks also to those PIs who have provided new images recently
to expand the
VSOP Image Gallery.
(18 June 1999).
- The results of the AO2 Science Review Committee's deliberations were
e-mailed to PIs today. It was originally planned to notify PIs
of tentative dates for their observations, but delays in getting HALCA back
to its normal observing mode meant the necessary simulations could not
realistically be carried out. (18 December 1998).
- The short (one-month) season of long (up to 90 minute duration)
eclipses ended November 4th: the next season of eclipses starts at
the end of January 1999.
(18 November 1998).
- HALCA calibration files have been
brought up to date for General Observing Time observations
(26 October 1998).
- "Overview and Initial Results of the Very Long Baseline
Interferometry Space Observatory Programme" by Hirabayashi et al.
is published in the 18th September issue of Science.
- Nominal GRT calibration
information added to the Information for Observers page.
(18 June 1998).
- Potential PIs for polarization proposals should peruse the
polarization page, which includes
the
Polarization Study Team's report.
( April 1998).
- A strong outburst of the water maser Orion-KL has allowed
22 GHz pointing tests to be carried out with HALCA....
and as a result first fringes at 22 GHz have been
found at the Socorro correlator. More details in the
VSOP news no. 81.
( April 1998).
