****************************************************** PR # 11007 We propose observations of three Herbig Ae/Be stars, which are class- ified as O9-B0 stars and should have sufficient brightness to be detected by ASCA. Herbig Ae/Be stars are young stars of intermediate- mass(2-10 solar mass). No observations of them in the X-ray band have been reported so far in spite of their importance in investigating the evolution of proto-planetary systems and intermediate-mass stars themselves. The proposed observations will provide important infor- mation about (1)the presence (or absence) of different mechanism for activities of Herbig Be stars from that for normal B stars, (2) the activities and mass-loss rates of these Herbig Be stars, and (3) the spatial distributions of circumstellar materials around them. ******************************************************
