****************************************************** PR # 11008 We propose to detect hard X-ray emission from deeply embedded proto- star candidates associated with Taurus Morecular Cloud 1. ASCA provid eds a unique opportunity to observe the surface region of embedded protostars by virtue of its high imaging capability in the hard X-ray band where radiation is transparent to gas clouds with visual extinc- tion more than 100 magnitudes. We selected the TMC 1 region for the target of the propossed observation because 3 protostar candidates are located within the GIS field of view in this dark cloud, with enough separation from each other X-ray emission , which is feasible with the high sensitivity of ASCA, leads us first to understand the physics of protostellar surface activities, especially those related with magnetic fields. ******************************************************
