****************************************************** PR # 11030 We proposed to observed GX301-2 with ASCA to obtain time resolved spectra over a 40ksec period when the neutron star is near periastron and thus very bright. The observations of the spectrum with ASCA's excellent spectral resolution and at different pulse phases will give strong constraints on the state and the geometry of the circumstellar matter, by comparing the iron line shape and continuum shape with those calculated by Monte Carlo simulations. GX301-2 is particularly suitable to such a study because it has a high column density of circumstellar matter and extremely strong fluorescent iron line emission. ******************************************************
