****************************************************** PR # 11057 The results of PV-Phase observations demonstrate that ASCA is the first satellite to separate K-shell line features from H- and He like atoms. The wide energy band of ASCA covers K-line energies of many key elements ranging from O to Fe. This provides us with a powerful plasma diagnostics in SNRs, and hence enable us to determine accurate physical parameters, such as total thermal energy, ionization parameter (product of electron density and time after the plasma heating), electron temperature and elemental abundance. Using this high capability of ASCA, we intend to study the evolution of SNRs systematically. To be free from distance ambiguity, we pick up SNR samples from LMC. These SNRs are selected so as to cover long span of the age of SNRs. ******************************************************
