****************************************************** PR # 11084 We propose observations of the X-ray bright elliptical galaxies, which were not observed in the PV phase, and address the outstanding question"how much of the hot gas in the universe has been created and ejected from galaxies?". Recent observations suggest that galaxies may have ejected very large amount(similar to the total stellar mass) of interstellar gas into intergalactic space, even though it is hardly possible from model considerations. Measurements of heavy-element abundances in the hot coronae of elliptical galaxies provides a crucial test for such a possibility and reveals the properties of starburst activities during the galaxy formation period. ******************************************************
