     We propose to observe three nearby groups containing bright
    elliptical galaxies. The observations are expected at least to give
    detections of the elliptical galaxies and a very low upper limit on
    the intragroup medium if not detections. The intragroup medium should
    however be readily detectable and detections will provide spatial
    distributions of metallicity, gas density and gas temperature. X-ray
    observations will be supplemented by optical observations providing
    infomation on the stellar content of group member galaxies. The combi
    nation of both kinds of observations will constitute a test of wind
    models for elliptical galaxies and models for the enrichment of the
    intragalactic medium.
