****************************************************** PR # 11151 We propose to observe a highly variable BL Lacertae type object, 1H 0323+022 with ASCA. With the observation, we aim to measure spectral changes correlated with intensity variations. The source is known as the record holder of fast intensity variation among the BL Lac object s, for a 30 second flare was observed with Einstein Observatory. It is also observed with Ginga, and the result strongly suggests that synch rotron emission is the most likely model as the X-ray emission mechan ism. The model also predicts deviation from simple power-law shape spectra, although Ginga could not detect it due to insufficient statis tics. Here we propose high time resolution spectroscopy with wide energy band, high energy resolution and excellent sensitivity detec- tors on board ASCA. ******************************************************
