****************************************************** PR # 11177 Abell 2142 is the only cluster which is both classified as an optical binary and has a strong cooling flow.A body of evidence suggests that the cluster is the product of the recent merging of two subclusters. We will compare the hard X-ray morphology to the soft X-ray data obtained with the PSPC; this will lead to a clearer understanding of the physics of the putative merger. We will measure the temperature profile in the cluster to constrain the total and gas mass distribut- ions; these observations have important cosmological implications. A detailed spectral study of the cooling flow will help us to under- stand the fate of the cooled gas, which may form a significant fract- ion of the baryonic mass of the cluster. ******************************************************
