****************************************************** PR # 12026 The SNR PKS 1209-52 is well known for its symmetrical morphology. It also contains a centrally located point X-ray source, 1E 1207.4-5209. The ratio of the X-ray to optical luminosity for this source exceeds 1000. We argue that the point source must be a pulsar. Inspection of the radio image reveal a 15 arcmin nebula surrounding the point source. Its symmetrical location and morphology is highly suggestive of a plerion powered by the pulsar. We argue that the SNR issimilar to Vela.We predict that X-rays should be detectable from the plerion. Using the Einstein data we predict that an ASCA pulse search would be quite successful. Most likely the plerion has been brightened up by compression by the reverse shock, a phase that is of some interest from a theoretical point of vi ******************************************************
