****************************************************** PR # 12068 We propose to carry out a study of five gamma-ray burst error boxes in the hither to unexplored ASCA energy range. Three of them contain weak ROSAT or Einstein sources, and have been studied in the optical and radio ranges; we are anxious to determine whether their spectra contain high energy, non-thermal components. The other error boxes have not yet been studied in the X-ray range. Observations extending to 12 keV are particularly important in view of predictions that accreting, magnetized compact objects may emit a significant fraction of their luminosities as non-thermal radiation just below the cyclotron frequency. The ASCA observations willbe complemented with deep radio, IR, optical and EUV observations. ******************************************************
