****************************************************** PR # 12073 ASCA has the unique capability to detect multiple temperature compon- ents associated with subclusters, the X-ray analog to optical velocity dispersion subcomponents. In this proposal we will observe A119 and A754, two clusters likely to show the spectral signature of mergers based on HEAO1 A2, EinsteinSSS, and IPC data (Henriksen 1993; Ap.J.Le tters, in Press). Evidence of substructure in both the optical and X- ray imaging data, also suggests that hierarchical merging of subclus- ters may be present in both of these clusters.Spectra of the individ- ual subclusters is needed to derive constraints on metal abundance, cooling flow emission, and the dark matter distribution which have important implications for galaxy formation in the context of cluster evolution. ******************************************************
