****************************************************** PR # 12097 We propose to observe the 1.20 day eclipsing Algol system RZ Cas. The ROSAT PSPC spectrum could not be well fit by a two component thermal plasma modelwith solar abundances. Instead either a two temperature model with 10 to 20 percent solar abundances, or a solar abundance thermal plus a power law gives a good fit. The power law suggests non -thermal emission, which would explain previous discrepancies in the Fe abundance measured from Algol and RS CVn systems, and the failure to detect a high energy eclipse. The extended energy band and much im proved spectral resolution of ASCA will distinguish the two possible spectral models. We will search for absorption and variability assoc- iated with the eclipse and arrange VLA coverage. ******************************************************
