****************************************************** PR # 12100 The X-ray source X0142+614 has the most extreme 0.5-10 keV ultrasoft spectrum known. The spectrum may be similar to that of the black hole candidates in their high state. During one EXOSAT observation this unidentified source exhibited a hard tail, which was pulsed with a period of 25min.During other observations the pulsations were absent. The origin of the pulsation remain a mystery. We propose to observe this source with ASCA to establish if the pulsations come from this source, or from a nearby source. The 0.5-10 keV energy coverage and improved spectral resolution of ASCA will be able to investigate the ultrasoft spectrum and search for a possible 0.7 keV line seen by the Einstein SSS. ******************************************************
