****************************************************** PR # 12149 We propose a systematic study of the supernova remnants (SNRs) in the LargeMagellanic Cloud (LMC). The broadband spectral data from ASCA will be analyzed in the context of a nonequilibrium ionization model which allows determination of mean plasma temperatures, ionization time scales, and elemental abundances. With these results for the sample we will be able to (1) determine whether or not rapid equilibr ation of electron and ion temperatures occurs at the shock fronts of SNRs, (2) find and study young,ejecta-dominated remnants, and (3) det ermine the elemental abundances in the LMC. ******************************************************
