****************************************************** PR # 12183 We propose to use the high energy resolution and broad spectral cover age of the SIS on ASCA to test models of emission line behavior in X- ray binaries.A model developed by us that incorporates a realistic re presentation of an accretion disk corona predicts strong emission fro m the H-like ions of O,Ne,Mg,Si,& Fe,as well as strong Fe K$\alpha$ e mission.ASCA is ideal for detecting these lines, owing to its ability to distinguish them from the lines of He-like ions,& to separate the H-like lines from K$\alpha$.Observation of the predicted lines will provide the first physical tests of ADC models and set constraints di stinctly different from those derived from X-ray light curves. We sele ct sources which enable the study of Fe emission around the binary or bit for comparison with light ******************************************************
