    We propose ASCA observations of the archetypal Seyfert 1 NGC 4151, as
    part of an intensive 1-10 Dec monitoring campaign for which CGRO,
    ROSAT,IUE and the ground based coverage is already approved. The
    measured radio through gamma-ray spectrum will be used to determine
    the instantaneous total energy budget, allowing a critical test of
    reprocessing models.The combined data will allow us to investigate
    the short and medium-term variability of the shape of the X-ray/gamma
    -ray continuum and to test the validity of models for the soft X-ray
    excess. Furthermore, this will permit the first detailed study of how
    the hard X-ray variability inNGC 4151 relates to that at ultra-violet
    and lower energies.
