     We propose observations of the violent and enigmatic X-ray binary   
    system Cir X-1.We hope to study the spectrum and temporal variability
    of this system and will obtain important information on super-       
    Eddington accretion, type I X-ray bursts, spectral state variability,
    quasi-periodic oscillations, Z and atoll source unification schemes, 
    and X-ray spectral line formation. This is the resubmission of a     
    proposal that was accepted at priority 3 for AO1. We hope that the   
    improved case here will increase its priority as we think it is a    
    very important source for ASCA to observe.
