****************************************************** PR # 21065 We propose an observation of a gamma-ray-emitting radio pulsar PSR1 706-44. High energy gamma-rays were detected from this pulsar both by the EGRET on Compton gamma-ray observatory(CGRO) and by the telescope of Project CANGAROO. By observing this pulsar in X-ray region we can study an emission mechanism of the spin-powered pulsars.Observed Xray pulse shape will be compared with known gamma-ray pulse to clarify a structure of magnetosphere of the pulsar. Furthermore, observed energy spectra will tell us physical condition of a neutron star such as its surface temperature. All these information are indispensable to under stand the pulsar and the proposed observations of pulsars by ASCA will make great contributions to the pulsar astronomy. ******************************************************
