****************************************************** PR # 21517 The proposal is aimed to confirm the supernova origin of a galactic object from which the 44Ti 1.157 MeV line emission has been detected by COMPTEL. Two bright ROSAT sources are found inside the COMPTEL angular resolution of this object. It is proposed to use ASCA's SIS spectral capabilities to search for Ka line emission from the hydrogen- or helium-like 44Ti ions. The discovery of 44Ti Ka line emission from the 1.157 MeV line source would prove its supernova origin and therefore would be a first step in solving the long standing problem of the apparent lack of SN in the Galaxy during the last 300 years. ******************************************************
