****************************************************** PR # 21534 We propose to observe 2 of the 10 brightest X-ray clusters at red- shifts above 0.2 in the Northern sky. The ASCA spectra will allow accurate temperatures & metallicities to be determined for clusters at a substantially earlier epoch in their formation. The proposed targets are drawn from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey & have all been ob- served w/the ROSAT HRI in a co-ordinated optical, radio & X-ray study of the distant clusters of galaxies. The 2 clusters have different optical & radio properties. The more luminous (A2219) is a richness class 3 Abell cluster w/2 head-tail radio sources whereas the other (RX J0439.0+520) is a relatively poor cluster but with the most radio luminous central galaxy of any cluster except Cygnus-A. The ROSAT- selected, distant clusters are ******************************************************
