****************************************************** PR # 21535 According to the hierarchical models of structure formation, rich clusters in galaxies are growing through mergers of poorer sytems,& this process is expected to be still on-going at the present epoch. A prototypical case of a nearby merger, the system A2572/HCG94, has been detected in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey and has also been the target of a 32 ksec pointed observation with ROSAT's PSPC,in which this system was found to be in fact triple. Due to its proximity and complexity, A2572/HCG94 represents an ideal target for study of the dynamics of merging events. One of the most interesting questions in this context is how the merger disturbs the spatial distribution of the tempera- ture & the metals in the gaseous intra-cluster medium. Any gradients in these quantities would great ******************************************************
