****************************************************** PR # 22017 AU Mic is one of the most outstanding single M dwarf flare stars in the solar vicinity; it is the most luminous dMe star within 10 pc, and has the highest X-ray flux at Earth of any single dMe star. Excellent UV and EUV spectra have been obtained; AU Mic is the only star for which a high temperature UV line has been identified. Previous observations suggest that much of the emission measure is at high temperatures above 10 MK. We propose to use ASCA to extend our knowledge of the EM distribution from the chromosphere, TR, and the cooler corona up to the hottest plasma. Since AU Mic is also one of the most reliable flare stars, time resolved temperature analysis can be obtained, with the hope to identify different plasma components in the course of flare evolution. ******************************************************
