****************************************************** PR # 22018 The active K-type star, Speedy Mic (HD 197890), is one of the most rapidly rotating (0.3 days rotation period) cool dwarf stars yet dis- covered, & is also a strong & variable source in the extreme ultra- violet that was detected in the ROSAT All Sky Survey with the Wide Field Camera. We propose to make an ASCA observation of this young disk star that will extend over 2 rotation periods so as to determine its X-ray spectral characteristics and to obtain a record of its coronal spectrum as a function of rotational phase. We will search for possible spectral variability due to the rotational modulation of compact emission regions and/or of cool, absorbing clouds that have been inferred to be present and might occult underlying coronal structures. ******************************************************
