****************************************************** PR # 22107 We propose ASCA observations of two unidentified regions of diffuse emission which lie in the direction of the Monogem Ring supernova remnant. The regions were discovered during the ROSAT All-Sky Survey. The regions have spectra which are significantly harder than the surrounding remnant, and appear to be spatially distinct from the remnant. They are bright enough and small enough to allow imaging and spatially-resolved spectroscopy with ASCA. The aim of the proposal is to determine the nature of these objects; the possibilities include background remnants, clusters, or unusually hot regions of the Monogem Ring. The spectral and spatial structure, as determined by ASCA, will be crucial in distinguishing between these possibilities. ******************************************************
