****************************************************** PR # 22129 We propose to observe the elliptical galaxy NGC~4125 with ASCA SIS and GIS for a total of 40 ksec. This elliptical features morphological, spectral, and $UBV$ color signatures suggestive that it is a recent merger and is therefore dynamically young (3--7 Gyr). ROSAT observations suggest that, while a bright X-ray halo is not present, such dynamically young galaxies may still retain some of their ISM. We plan a detailed study of the X-ray spectrum, to investigate the presence and properties of a hot ISM, and to set limits on a presently unknown hard emission component from low-mass X-ray binaries. ******************************************************
