****************************************************** PR # 22147 Recent studies of soft X-ray {\it ROSAT} spectra of AGN reveal com- plexity, yet show a surprising uniformity of shape, which is uncor- related with luminosity, and thus is suggestive of atomic processes. While ionized absorption sufficiently describes these low resolution spectra, we consider an alternative scenario, which includes reflection/reprocessing of X-rayradiation by partly ionized, optically thick medium. We propose to test this scenario (& validate it against an ionized absorber model) with a 20 ks {\it ASCA} obser- vation of a bright Seyfert 1 galaxy ESO 141-G55, where spectral structure was already observed in a lowerenergy resoluton (ROSAT) X-ray spectra. ******************************************************
