****************************************************** PR # 22168 We propose to study the two high redshift radio loud QSOs PHL 1377 (z=1.44) and OQ 172 (z=3.53) with ASCA. ROSAT observations of these objects show they are strong X-ray sources which should be observable by ASCA. As a result of the redshift, the iron K alpha lines and the Compton reflection component may be observed. The hard X-ray spectrum is of intrinsic interest to the physics of AGN and important for the study of the X-ray background. In combination with ground-based optical, HST, IUE and ROSAT observations, the ASCA observations will help characterize these high redshift (and therefore high luminosity) sources across the electromagnetic spectrum. ******************************************************
