     We propose to obtain a 30 ksec observation of the Herbig Ae star  HD1       
     04237 (A4e), which is the closest (90 pc) and brightest member of thi       
     s class of massive pre-main-sequence stars. It has the highest  X-ray       
      flux of any known Herbig star. Our objective is to determine if the        
     X-rays originate in a hot (1 - 2 keV) coronal-like plasma or in coole
