****************************************************** PR # 31116 A working hypothesis is proposed for the abundance problem of the X-r ay halo in elliptical galaxies; heavy elements created in supernovae are hot enough to escape from galaxies and only the gas from stellar mass loss with subsolar metallicity is retained in the x-ray halo. If so, high Lx/LB objects should cotainn gas created in older time beca use gas supply rate from stellar mass loss is proportional to LB. Sin ce supernova rate is considered to be higher in the past, the hypothe sis predicts higher metal abundance for larger Lx objects. We propose to test this with ASCA for high Lx E-galaxies. ******************************************************
