****************************************************** PR # 31510 We propose to observe with the ASCA SIS the Herbig Be star HD~200775, a pre-main-sequence star of intermediate mass. While evidence exists that X-ray emission of Herbig stars arises from their winds, ROSAT PSPC data do not allow to determine uniquely a model for the X-ray emission, the data being compatible both with Raymond spectra (with different temperatures) or a power-law spectrum. These alternative m odels have different implications on the phenomena taking place in t he wind. We present simulations of SIS spectra, showing that the obs ervations we propose are able to discriminate clearly between the va rious emission models, giving us further insight into the nature of t he strong activity of these stars. ******************************************************
