****************************************************** PR # 31517 We propose a 20 ks ASCA observation of the peculiar hard X-ray source of the galactic bulge SLX 1735-269. This source is one of the nine sources of the 16 deg x 16 deg region around the galactic center (ou t of the about 60 known) to show quasi-persistent emission in hard X- rays ( > 35 keV). The aim of the proposal is to obtain detailed spec tral and temporal data to determine the nature of the object and to allow its classification. We are particularly interested in the detai led knowledge of the continuum 1-10 keV spectrum, in the search for iron line spectral features, and in a deep flux spectral variability analysis. The improved ASCA estimates of the Nh and in particular of the position will also enable the optical counterpart search progra m to start. ******************************************************
