     We propose to extend X--ray spectral observations of radio quiet QSO        
      to beyond the `peak'' in the luminosity function, by observing the o       
     ptically-bright source PG 1247+267. For the first time, we will be ab       
     le to determine the spectral properties of such AGN in their early st       
     ages of development, providing constraint on the accretion disc, obsc
