     We propose an ASCA observation of the highly variable soft X-ray Seyf       
     ert 1 galaxy E1615+061. Previous observations with HEAO-1, Einstein,        
     EXOSAT, ROSAT and GINGA have shown remarkable variability in X-rays,        
     at least by a factor of 6, possibly by two orders of magnitude. This        
     variability appears to be dominated by a soft excess, whose relative        
     intensity compared to the underlying power law increases with luminos       
     ity. The spectral resolution afforded by ASCA combined with the remar       
     kable behaviour of this Seyfert galaxy will provide a unique opportun
