****************************************************** PR # 31544 We propose an ASCA observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC985. Our pr evious ROSAT study of NGC985 strongly suggests that it may possess a warm absorber, i.e. partially ionized material along the line of sigh t to the primary X-ray source. We will search for spectral features associated with such a warm absorber, including time variation of the absorption. The purpose of such studies is to determine the physica l state, location and structure of the warm absorbing material. Featu res produced by warm material may prove to be an important diagnostic for models of Seyfert galaxies and unified AGN models. ******************************************************
