****************************************************** PR # 32007 We propose to use the ASCA SIS to observe the very metal poor corona of the star HD 89499. A Pop II binary, HD 89499 is the most metal poor star ([Fe/H] = -2.3) known to be an X-ray source. Observations with ROSAT have shown this star to possess a very hot (1.5 x 10$^7$ K) single-component corona. ASCA spectra will be used to constrain the high-temperature component, determine whether such a high temperature is caused by the lack of line emission, and compare the Fe abundance in the corona to that measured in the photosphere. ******************************************************
