****************************************************** PR # 32020 The flare star, Gliese 890, is an active single M dwarf (BY Dra type variable) in the solar neighborhood with a very short period of rotation (10.5h). We propose to observe this young disk star with ASCA, over its one full rotation period, so as to determine its X-ray spectral characteristics and to study its coronal spectrum as a func tion of rotational phase. We will determine the temperature structur e of its corona, distinguish between multiple discrete components and a continuum of temperatures, and estimate the elemental abundances i n its corona. We will look for possible spectral variability due to rotational modulation of compact emissionregions and/or of cool, abso rbing clouds that may be present and might occult underlying coronal structure ******************************************************
