****************************************************** PR # 32099 Discovery of more than a handful Super Soft Sources (SSS) by ROSAT verifies SSS as a new, important category of astronomical objects. The origin of SSS is not completely clear; SSS are believed to be either neutron stars (or black holes) shrouded by a large cocoon of matter, or white dwarfs with sustained nuclear burning on their surfaces. We propose ASCA spectral observations of CAL87 and RXJ0925.7--4758, which have hard enough energy spectra to be observed with the ASCA SIS. Our main purpose is to (1) characterize possible spectral deviation from a blackbody and determine continuum spectral shape; (2) investigate emission lines or absorption edge features; and (3) search for a hard-tail. ******************************************************
