****************************************************** PR # 32144 We propose to observe the young supernova SN 1978K in a search for pulsations from a yet undiscovered pulsar. This target was previously observed by ASCA in the Performance Verification phase as part of a pointing at NGC 1313. This observation was not optimized for pulsar searches in that it had temporal resolution limited to 62.5 ms. (Nonetheless, we have found a statistically interesting periodicity in these data at 4.72 Hz.) The proposed study will allow us to search for pulsations in the range of periods that are plausible for newly formed neutron stars. The sensitivity limit will be about $2 \times 10^{38}$ ergs s$^{-1}$. This observation will yield important additional data on the X-ray light curve of this object whether the source is p ******************************************************
