****************************************************** PR # 41041 Recent ASCA and ROSAT observations of soft and ultra-soft transients in quiescence revealed clear contrast between X-ray characteristics of the black hole and neutron star transients. There seems to be lower limit in quiescent luminosity of neutron star transients (1E32 erg/sec), while such limit is not seen in the black hole transients. Some of the black hole transients show significant low luminosity X-ray emission, which can be approximated by a blackbody of a few hundread eV. Origin of this emission is unclear. We propose systematic observations of black hole transients in quiescence to establish the difference from those including neutron star and to uncover the origing of the X-ray emission. ******************************************************
