****************************************************** PR # 41099 We propose to perform X-ray spectroscopy of low Lx/Lb ellipticals NGC3607 and NGC3608. Hydrodynamical calculations by Ciotti et al. (1991) suggest that these low Lx/Lb ellipticals are in gas outflow phase due to high SNIa explosion rate. While ASCA has recently reveals that giant elliptical galaxies contain little iron in their hot gas, suggesting that virtually no SNIa nucleosynthesis in ellipticals. To understand this inconsistency, we propose to get direct evidence of SNIa in low Lx/Lb ellipticals. If these galaxies are really in the outflow phase, their temperature should be systematically higher and metallicity higher than high Lx/Lb gas-rich ellipticals. X-ray surface brightness distribution will be systematically different. ******************************************************
