****************************************************** PR # 41229 Only very recently has A3627 been recognized as a very important nearby galaxy cluster (with z =0.016). ROSAT observations imply that it is the sixth brightest cluster in X-rays. This object was overlooked in all X-ray studies previous to ROSAT because of its location close to the galactic plane. For an accurate mass determination spectral data from an ASCA observation are required. Because of the proximity and the prominence of the cluster, precise information on the mass of the cluster is important for the modelling of the local Universe. The ROSAT image shows that the cluster is currently in a state of a collison of a smaller cluster component with the main part. The study of the temperature variations in A3627 will help to understand the heating of the intracluster gas by mergers. ******************************************************
