****************************************************** PR # 42087 ASCA PV observations of SN1006 have resolved the mystery of the origin of its featureless X-ray spectrum. The remnant interior is filled with line-emitting thermal radiation arising from shock-heated material. The power law component that dominates the integrated 2-20 keV spectrum arises only along 2 segments of the rim. The PV data showed conclusively that the power law arises as synchrotron emission from electrons accelerated within the shock region to up to 200 TeV. We propose new SIS pointings to more carefully study both components. Our goals include completion of the SIS coverage of the remnant, measuring spatial variations within the thermal plasma and non-thermal component, and understanding the apparent abundance anomalies present in the PV data. ******************************************************
