****************************************************** PR # 42093 In spite that the Galactic diffuse X-ray emission is the most energetic constituent in the interstellar space, its origin, probably diffuse in nature, is still unknown. ASCA spectra exhibited numerous emission lines expected from thermal plasmas, and more importantly, there was an indication that the plasma becomes cooler going far from the Galactic plane. This suggests the thermal plasma is dynamic and continuously outflowing from the Galactic plane. We propose three pointings at l=0 toward the positive latitudinal direction, where we will carry out scanning observations with XTE. By combining ASCA and XTE data, we will study spectral variations parpendicular to the Galactic plane. ******************************************************
