****************************************************** PR # 42100 We propose to observe the local group galaxy M32 for 30 ksec with ASCA. The proximity of M32 provides a unique opportunity to study the x-ray properties of a compact elliptical galaxy and extend the investigation of the x-ray emission from early-type systems to an unprecedented low x-ray-to-optical flux ratio. Because M32 is unlikely to retain a hot gas halo, an unimpeded view of the emission from the sum of x-ray binaries and/or an AGN associated with the central black hole is expected. Previous observations are not sufficient to constrain the x-ray spectral parameters. ******************************************************
