   We propose to observe MCG-5-23-16 with ASCA and XTE to monitor the
   shape and variability of the continuum and reprocessed flux. Our goal
   is to measure the iron fluorescence line and Compton reflection
   component simultaneously on short and long timescales to determine
   their origins. This science can only be done with joint ASCA and XTE
   observations. MCG-5-23-16 is an excellent candidate because it is
   bright, variable, and its iron line shows both a narrow and broad
   component. This suggests that we will almost certainly be
   investigating the accretion disk and the molecular torus.
