****************************************************** PR # 42155 The use of the iron K line as a diagnostic of the physical state and structure of the active nuclei (AGN) in Seyfert galaxies is maturing rapidly, yet there have been extremely few reports of iron K line detections in AGN/ quasars with 2-10 keV luminosity > 1.0e44 ergs/s. We propose to follow up a GINGA dectection of iron K emission in the furthest quasar yet, PKS 0637-752 (z=0.66). ASCA will measure the line energy and equivalent width and determine whether the line is broadened by Doppler and/or gravitational effects. Comparison with closer, lower luminosity AGN is expected to significntly contribuite to our understanding of the nature and structure of matter in the innermost regions of AGN. ******************************************************
