****************************************************** PR # 43040 Distant massive clusters of galaxies are key objects for constraining cosmological scenarios. In this respect, we have selected 8 rich clusters from the ROSAT All-Sky-Survey and undertaken a multi-wavelength campaign which is to bring, for the first time, a unique data base of quality comparable to that reached for nearby objects. We have already performed high resolution optical and radio observations as well as deep ROSAT pointings; the sample will be extensively covered during the ISO central programme. We propose to measure the ICM temperature with ASCA, a fundamental parameter for characterizing, in close connection with the informations from the other WL, the dynamical state of these young objects. ASCA observations of the complete sample is an ESA/ISAS/NASA collaboration. ******************************************************
